About Lovers Lane
Lovers Lane is the Mission’s only love themed Valentines Day event meant to inspire hope, bring unity, and love for the community.
Every year we make sure to emphasize the importance of accessibility through free activities for families, affordable vendor fees, volunteer organization, and community resources.
We provide tons of kids activities and family resources, artwork from previous years and local painters, performances from youth and local artists, oldies DJs on every corner, lowriders parked for viewing, authentic food & drinks, exclusive Lovers Lane merchandise and more!
Originally founded by director of LL Lucia Gonzalez Ippolito aka CiaLuArt, a local muralist raised in Balmy Alley and who had done many block parties and events on her street prior. Balmy Alley is a historical mural walk and main vein of art/ storytelling off the 24th Street commercial corridor. 24th Street is also a major artery in the heart of San Francisco’s Mission District and hosts many large cultural events.
Lucia’s vision to bring together artists, craft makers and performers to celebrate togetherness. The first year in 2022, Lucia collaborated with her partner and LL screenprinter Alfredo Uribe aka El Lechero, to form Lovers Lane with DJ and organizer Wray Velez and fashion designer and business owner Mary from Mission Praxis.
Knowing that deep healing and connection happens with greater ease in community surrounded by art, music, food, children and community, the event kept growing. In year two Lucia expanded the team by adding on members such as singer and deputy director Nataly Ortiz. In year three, together Lucia and Nataly formed committees of community folks to help organize. Such members like doula and vendor/childrens committee lead Georgia Collins, volunteer committee lead Susie Franco, marketing lead Andrew Brobst, and security lead Nina Parks added greatly to the team.
Today, Lovers Lane is still a grassroots organized volunteer based event with 30 members working hard to bring love to the neighborhood in some of the most difficult times globally. After learning a lot from the first 4 years the team is hoping to receive more support to make year 5 the best it can be!
